I get awesome TV download speeds with the PIA app with wireguard specified and surprisingly less awesome ones with the NordVPN app set to NordLynx (two VPN subscriptions in the run-off phase for me).Ĥ Linksys WRT1900ACSv2 routers on 49081, 2 on 48141: VLANs, VAPs, NAS, client mode, OpenVPN client (AirVPN), DDNS, wireguard servers and clients (AzireVPN), three DNSCrypt DNS providers (incl Quad9) via VPN clients. Those apps are easy to flip on and off as I change between streaming apps that work with VPN and those that do not.

To be fair, the one place I appreciate having the proprietary wireguard apps is with my Android TV, for which there is no generic wireguard app (at least not without resorting to sideloading, which I've never attempted). I think there are other firms that offer solid "unenhanced" wireguard as well. Several of us have done well with AzireVPN and KeepSolid using straightforward dd-wrt setups. Maybe we as a community should just ignore the VPN firms offering proprietary "wireguard" that won't play well with standard implementations. I think even WireGuard developer states that by itself, WireGuard isn't as good as privacy as it is at security. Mullvad mitigates WireGuard privacy issues by destroying client logs after 24 hours and NordVPN uses Double NAT method to obfuscate client information. Both of them agree that unlike OpenVPN, WireGuard provides more security than privacy. Linux User #377467 counter.li.org / īoth NordVPN and Mullvad claim proprietary methods of using WireGuard.

Pogo - A minimal level of ability is expected and needed.Īt some point, people just get plain tired of this place.īecause they are tired of bottom-feeders and the same old hat. "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly All is vanity" If it is hard-coded into the executable, then that's a serious reverse-engineering task. Not sure the configuration information is in a file that is human readable or in a registry key (I presume this is in Windows). Those need to be fixed FIRST! Not when we have these types of shenanigans, even if it's for valid reasons, like shortcomings in the protocol. This is just another example of why WG is NOT ready for prime time IMO. What good is this supposedly great alternative to well-established and proven VPNs (whatever their shortcomings) if providers (and I know there are others doing the same) end up going their own way? Now VPN providers are creating *proprietary* WG solutions?! That's ridiculous.
